# The user object

The user object in the Shortcut API - every field, an example, and the endpoints that return it.

A staff user: a company admin or an employee.

## Fields

| Field       | Type                            | Description                                                                             |
| ----------- | ------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `id`        | id                              | The user's id.                                                                          |
| `object`    | `"user"`                        | Always `user`.                                                                          |
| `firstName` | string                          | First name.                                                                             |
| `lastName`  | string                          | Last name.                                                                              |
| `email`     | string                          | Sign-in email address.                                                                  |
| `role`      | `admin`, `employee`             | `admin` runs the workspace in the app; `employee` works in the field with the crew app. |
| `status`    | `active`, `invited`, `inactive` | `invited` has not accepted the invitation yet; `inactive` was deactivated.              |
| `teamId`    | id or null                      | The crew the user works on, or null.                                                    |
| `createdAt` | timestamp                       | When the user was added, ISO 8601 in UTC.                                               |
| `updatedAt` | timestamp                       | When the user last changed, ISO 8601 in UTC.                                            |
