# Connect ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to your Shortcut workspace by signing in to Shortcut from ChatGPT.

After this page, ChatGPT can look up your customers, read your schedule, and answer questions about your jobs, invoices, and payments in your Shortcut workspace. ChatGPT connects by signing in: a company admin signs in to Shortcut from ChatGPT and approves access. There is no token to copy.

The Shortcut MCP server is at:

```
https://api.shortcutco.com/mcp
```

Workspaces on Shortcut's dev environment use `https://dev.shortcutco.com/api/mcp`; see [Environments](/developers/concepts/conventions.md#environments).

## 1. Add Shortcut to ChatGPT

Your ChatGPT account or workspace has to allow custom MCP servers. On a Business or Enterprise workspace, an admin may need to allow them first.

1. Open the ChatGPT plugins page at `chatgpt.com/plugins`.
2. Select the plus button, then **Add custom MCP server**.
3. Name: `Shortcut`. Description: `Customers, schedule, jobs, and invoices from Shortcut`.
4. Connection: enter `https://api.shortcutco.com/mcp`.
5. Authentication: **OAuth**. ChatGPT finds Shortcut's sign-in on its own; leave any client ID and secret fields empty.
6. Review the warning, select **I understand and want to continue**, then **Create as a plugin**.

## 2. Sign in and approve

ChatGPT opens Shortcut.

1. Sign in with your Shortcut email and password if asked.
2. Shortcut shows what ChatGPT is asking for: your workspace, where it sends you back (`chatgpt.com`), and the scopes. Select **Approve**.

You're back in ChatGPT with the Shortcut tools listed. Only company admins can approve; anyone else sees "Ask a company admin".

Sign-in grants read access to customers, leads, estimates, jobs, visits, invoices, payments, services, products, tags, custom fields, crews, and staff. ChatGPT acts as the admin who approved it. It refreshes its access on its own, about once an hour, and a connection unused for 30 days has to sign in again.

## 3. Try it

In a new conversation, type `@` and choose Shortcut, then ask:

* "What's on the schedule today, by crew?"
* "Find the customer at 412 Elm St and show me their properties."
* "Which invoices are overdue, and by how much?"
* "What can you do in Shortcut with this connection?"

See [Connect Claude](/developers/mcp/connect-claude.md#tools) for the full tool list. ChatGPT sees the read tools.

## Disconnect

In Shortcut, open **Settings → API & integrations → Connected apps** and select **Disconnect** next to ChatGPT. ChatGPT loses access on its next request. Remove the plugin in ChatGPT too.

The connection also ends when the admin who approved it is deactivated or is no longer a company admin, or when its credentials are used in a way that suggests they were copied. Sign in again from ChatGPT to reconnect.

## Troubleshooting

* **Sign-in says "Ask a company admin".** Only company admins can approve a connection.
* **Sign-in says Shortcut couldn't identify the app, or the app's return address isn't registered.** Remove the plugin and add it again with the URL exactly as above and **OAuth** authentication.
* **ChatGPT asks you to sign in again.** The connection was disconnected in Shortcut, its admin was deactivated, or it went unused for 30 days. Sign in again.
