# Dashboard

[Open Dashboard →](https://shortcutco.com/dashboard)

## What you'll see

* **Today strip** — the date, how many jobs are on today, and how many need attention.
* **Money tiles** — **Revenue paid** (money in the bank), **Revenue earned** (work completed, paid or not), and **Outstanding** (what customers still owe). Switch the period at the top or compare to last year.
* **Cost & margin tiles** — once you set up [Costs & Profitability](/readme/costs-and-profitability.md), these show what your crew hours really cost and what you keep from each dollar of revenue.
* **Pipeline** — close rate and where your leads and estimates stand.
* **Revenue by service** — which services drive your revenue.
* **Tasks** — your open to-dos ([Tasks](/readme/dashboard/tasks-to-dos.md)).
* **Recent activity** — the latest completions, payments, and customer events.
* New accounts also see the **onboarding checklist** until setup is complete.

## How fresh are these numbers?

Above the money tiles you'll see when they were last worked out — **"Updated 2 hours ago"** — and a **Refresh** button.

* The summary is recalculated **every hour** in the background, so the page loads instantly instead of adding it up while you wait.
* Click **Refresh** any time you want it now. If it's taking a while, Shortcut says *"Still updating — you can safely leave this page"* and finishes without you.
* If a refresh fails, your **last good numbers stay on screen** rather than the page going blank. The button becomes **Try again**.
* The **Today strip, tasks, and recent activity are always live** — they aren't part of the hourly summary.

The first time you open the Dashboard on a new account, you'll see *"Calculating your business summary…"* while the first one is built.

## How periods are measured

Periods run on **your company's local calendar days**. "This month" starts at midnight where you work, not midnight UTC — so a job finished at 8pm on the last day of the month counts in that month.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The **Costs** page's month summary is still measured on UTC days, so its month total can differ slightly from the Dashboard's. We're aligning the two in an upcoming release. Until then, use the Dashboard for period-over-period money questions.
{% endhint %}

Setting a custom range? A date that doesn't exist (like February 30) is rejected instead of quietly sliding into the next month, and if you enter the two dates backwards Shortcut reads them in the right order.

## When to use this

* You're starting your day and want the money + workload picture
* You want to see who needs follow-up (tasks)
* You want to check margins after logging costs

**Tip: press `/` anywhere** (or tap the search icon on mobile) to open **Jump to…** — search customers by name, email, phone, or address and jump straight to their profile, jobs, or invoices.
