# Processing fees (optional)

Processing fees let you add a small fee to invoices to offset costs (for example, payment processing).

## When to use this

* You want customers to help cover your card processing costs

### Where to set it

Open **Settings → Customers → Customer payments** and find the **Charges on invoices** section.

## How it works

You can configure the fee as:

* a **percentage** (example: 3%), or
* a **flat dollar amount**

Once on, the fee is added to every invoice Shortcut creates, including prepay invoices. Customers see it as its own **Processing fee** line on the invoice and on Stripe's checkout page. Customers who pay from a bank account pay the same total, fee included.
