# Processing fees (optional)

Processing fees let you add a small fee to invoices to offset costs (for example, payment processing).

## When to use this

* You want to pass a processing fee to the customer
* You want to offset card processing fees

### Where to set it

Open the **settings cog → Billing & Payments → Customer Payments** and find the **Charges on invoices** section.

## How it works

You can configure the fee as:

* a **percentage** (example: 3%), or
* a **flat dollar amount**

Once on, the fee is added to every invoice Shortcut creates — including prepay invoices.
