📲Mobile app (iPhone + Android)

Shortcut Field is the Shortcut app for iPhone and Android: the same account and the same screens as the web, plus push notifications, GPS check-ins, camera photos, and offline mode for crews.

Shortcut runs on your phone as a real app. It's called Shortcut Field in the app stores and shows up as Shortcut on your home screen.

You can also scan the QR code at shortcutco.com/app/install, or from the Shortcut for iOS & Android card on your Dashboard.

Who it's for

Everyone on your team uses the same app, with the same login they use on the web. It isn't a cut-down version: everything you can do on the web, you can do in the app.

  • Admins and office staff get the full Shortcut (Dashboard, Messaging, Customers, Jobs, Calendar, Dispatch, Invoices, Costs, Timesheets, Reports, Chemicals, and Settings), with a tab bar along the bottom (Today or Dashboard, Inbox, Dispatch, Add Lead, Menu). You can run the business from the truck.

  • Crew members land on Today: their stops for the day in route order, with check-in, photos, notes, and Finish. See Worker app overview.

Customers don't use the app. They pay invoices and approve estimates on the web.

Install and sign in

1

Install the app

Open the link for your phone above and install it like any other app.

2

Sign in with your Shortcut email and password

The same login as the web. There's no separate account to create, and there's no sign-up inside the app: new companies start at shortcutco.com, and new team members are invited from Settings → Users on the web first.

3

Allow notifications and location when asked

The app asks for notifications so it can tell you when your route changes, and for location so it can record where a crew checked in. You can change either later in your phone's Settings.

Push notifications

The app can tap you on the shoulder when something changes. Notifications are set per person in Settings → General → Notifications, on the web or in the app. To get there in the app, tap Menu, tap your name at the bottom, then tap Settings and Notifications. On the web, click your name at the bottom-left of the sidebar, then Settings. Each alert has a Push switch (a notification on your phone), plus an Email switch when that alert can also be emailed.

My day (crew members, and admins who ride along on a crew):

Notification
When you get it

Your route changed

The office adds a stop to your day or takes one away ("Added: Jane Doe, 123 Elm St"), or reorders the day so your next three stops change ("Next: Jane Doe, 123 Elm St"). Shortcut waits about a minute after the last change so a burst of edits arrives as one notification. Tap it to open Today; if Today is already open in the app, it refreshes on its own.

Morning route brief

A morning heads-up with your stops for the day.

Task assigned to you

Someone assigns you a task.

Automation updates

An automation campaign has a step that notifies you or your assigned team. The notification shows the step's title and message. Admins tap through to the campaign; crew members land on Today.

Business (admins):

Notification
When you get it

New customer message

A customer replies to a text from your shared Inbox. Tap it to open the conversation.

New lead

A new lead comes in from your website form. The notification names them and shows the address and services they asked about, for example New lead: Jane Doe · 123 Elm St · Mowing, Aeration.

Proposal accepted / Proposal declined

A customer answers a proposal.

Job skipped / needs reschedule

A crew skipped a stop or sent it back to the office.

Job rescheduled

A visit was moved to a different day.

Worker added a field add-on

A crew member added billable work during a visit.

Worker applied a visit discount

A crew member changed a discount on a visit.

Payment received

A customer paid an invoice online. The first payment of the day names the customer and amount (Acme Lawn Co. paid $240.00 · Invoice #1002 is paid in full.). After that, one running total updates quietly in place, without a sound: Payments today: 14 · $3,420.00 · Latest: Acme Lawn Co. paid $240.00 · Invoice #1002. Tap the total to open your invoice list. Payments you record yourself don't send a notification.

Invoices went overdue

One or more invoices passed their due date.

Review feedback received

A customer responded to a review request.

Morning dispatch brief

A morning summary of the day's plan.

End-of-day wrap-up

An evening summary of the day's results.

Between 9 pm and 7 am in your company's time zone, most business notifications wait and arrive at 7 am, so overnight payments show up in the morning's total. New customer message and the My day notifications arrive right away. Emails are never held.

On iPhone, notifications of the same kind stack together, and customer messages stack by conversation.

A push notification can only reach a phone that has signed in to the app at least once; until then the Notifications page shows Install Shortcut for push alerts with the store links.

Admins also pick a Company notification language (English or Español) on the same page. It's used for anyone who hasn't chosen a language of their own.

Built for the field

  • GPS check-ins. When a crew member taps Start at a stop, or clocks in with Time Clock, the app records where they were at that moment. Location is only captured at those moments, never tracked in the background.

  • Camera photos. Add photo opens the camera or the photo library. JPEG, PNG, and HEIC (the iPhone default) all work, up to 10 MB each.

  • Works without signal. Once the app has loaded the day, crews can keep going in a dead zone:

    • Starting and finishing stops, adding photos and notes, skipping, rescheduling, and clock punches are saved on the phone and sent when the signal comes back.

    • A yellow bar says Offline. Showing last synced data., and each saved action says so, for example "Completion queued. It will sync when you're back online." Today shows how many changes are waiting, with a Sync now button.

    • Three things need a live connection: correcting a clock punch, deleting a photo, and opening or saving a chemical application record. Offline, a chemical visit shows Reconnect to open record. A chemical visit can't be finished until its record is completed, so fill in the record while you still have signal.

Troubleshooting

  • No notifications arriving. Open Settings → General → Notifications and check Push is switched on for that alert. If the page says Install Shortcut for push alerts, sign in on the app once. Then check your phone's Settings → Notifications → Shortcut is allowed.

  • "Started without GPS coordinates." Location permission is off for the app. Phone Settings → Shortcut → Location → While using the app.

  • "Camera access is off." Phone Settings → Shortcut → Camera.

  • Stuck on the offline screen. The app needs to connect once to load your day. Get signal, pull down to refresh or tap Sync now.

  • A crew member can't see their stops. Same as on the web: check their team and today's assignment in Dispatch. See Worker can't see jobs.

Still stuck?

Email hello@shortcutco.com with your phone model, whether you're on iPhone or Android, and a screenshot of what you see.
