# Later (optional): Customize automations

Once your basics are working, Automations can help you follow up more consistently without having to send every message by hand.

Use Automations when you want to:

* turn built-in reminders on or off
* change SMS versus email where supported
* edit message wording and merge tags
* adjust timing or delays
* create a custom automation from the builder
