Crews get it in the Shortcut app for [iPhone](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/shortcut-field/id6762139938) or [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shortcutco.app) (see [Mobile app](/readme/mobile-app.md)), or in a phone browser at [/today](https://shortcutco.com/today). Everything below works in both; push notifications and offline mode need the app. {% embed url="" %} Video: a crew's day in the Shortcut Field app (1:41). {% endembed %} ## What workers see When a worker opens **Today**, they see: * **Today's assigned jobs** for their team * **One card per visit** — if a customer has several services scheduled the same day at the same property (say, mowing and hedge trimming), they show as a single card. Start once, finish once. * Each card shows: customer name, address, services, and any notes * **Navigation link** — tap to open the job address in Google Maps * **Added** or **Moved** on a card when the office changed the route today (see [Your route changed](#your-route-changed))

### The property card Open a visit and the first thing on it is a card about the property, so the crew knows how to get in before they walk up: * **Map** — a satellite view of the property. Tap it for directions. * **Property photo** — the customer's photo for this property, if you've added one. Tap it to see it full size. * **Address** * **Gate code** — in large type. It comes from the property's own gate code, or from the customer's **Gate code** field if the property doesn't have one. * **Pets** — from the customer's **Pets** field. * **About this job** — the job's description. Anything that's blank is left off. The card is read-only for crews. In the app, the gate code is saved on the phone with the rest of the day, so it shows without signal; the map and photo need a connection to load. The customer's pinned note stays in the office and never shows on the card. See [Custom fields](/readme/configuration/custom-fields.md) for the **Gate code** and **Pets** fields.

## What workers can do ### Check in with GPS When arriving at a job site, workers tap **Start**. Shortcut records their GPS location for verification.

### Clock in and out If your company has turned on [Time Clock](/readme/time-clock-and-timesheets.md), the Today screen also has a card for the worker's own hours: * **Clock in** to start the day, **Clock out** to end it. * **Start unpaid break** pauses paid time; **Resume work** starts it again. Completed unpaid breaks don't count as paid hours. * Out of signal? The punch is saved on the phone and syncs when the connection comes back — the card says it's pending, so nobody taps twice. * **Location is only captured at the moment of a punch.** Shortcut doesn't track anyone's location during the day. * A worker can fix **today's** own punches from **Time details**; earlier days are read-only and go to the office. * One person can clock in or out several teammates at once, and **Flag for office** sends a note about a coworker without changing anyone's paid time. Clocking in is separate from starting a job. **Clock in** covers the working day; **Start** checks in at a particular property. ### Upload photos Workers can upload photos from the job site: * Supported formats: **JPEG, PNG, HEIC** * Max file size: **10 MB** per photo * Photos can be deleted if uploaded in error ### Add job notes Workers can add notes to a job — useful for documenting special conditions, access issues, or anything the office should know. ### Photos and notes — private by default, shareable when you want Photos and notes are for the office unless you choose otherwise. When adding one, you can tap **Share with customer** — shared photos and notes appear on the customer's invoice for that visit. Great for before/after shots and "here's what we found" notes. * The office can unshare or remove a shared item at any time. * Once a visit is completed and billed, its shared content is locked to what the invoice showed. ### Add products (materials) If the crew used materials the customer pays for, such as an extra yard of mulch or a sprinkler head, open the visit and tap **Products**, then **Add product**. Pick the product, enter the quantity, and tap **Save**. Crews see prices, never costs. If a product says *"Confirm quantity used before finishing this visit."*, tap **Confirm quantity** before **Finish**. See [Products](/readme/products.md#crews-add-products-in-today). ### Finish the visit When the work is done, tap **Finish** once. Every service on the visit is completed together, and Shortcut creates one invoice for the visit. See [Mark a job complete](/readme/jobs-and-scheduling/mark-a-job-complete-and-what-happens-next.md). Didn't get to one of the services? Skip or reschedule **that service** first (it goes back to the office), then Finish the rest. Tapped Finish by mistake? **Undo** restores the whole visit.

### Job runs past the end of the day? Hourly jobs don't have to finish in one day. Instead of tapping Finish, the crew taps **End today's work** to stop for the day, and **Request another workday** to ask the office for another day (with an optional note). The office schedules it from Dispatch's Needs attention tab. The customer is billed once, when the job is actually done. See [Closing out the day](/readme/dispatch/closing-out-the-day.md). ### "Your route changed" If the office adds a stop to the crew's day or takes one away, everyone on the crew gets a push notification titled **Your route changed** that names the stop, for example *"Added: Jane Doe, 123 Elm St"*. If the office reorders the day so that the crew's **next three stops** change, the notification says where to go next: *"Next: Jane Doe, 123 Elm St"*. A reorder further down the day doesn't send a notification; the new order just shows the next time Today refreshes. Workers can turn this on or off under **Settings → Notifications**. In the app, if Today is already open when the notification arrives, the list refreshes on its own and the message shows at the top of the screen. Today also marks what changed since the crew first opened it that day on that phone: * **Added** on a stop that's new to the route. * **Moved** on a stop that changed place. * **Removed from your route:** at the top, naming any stop that was taken away, with **Dismiss**. Opening a marked stop clears its mark. If the same stop moves again later, it's marked again. ### Operational instructions from the office If the office has left an instruction for a stop (a gate code, a warning about a dog), it appears in the stop under **Operational instructions**, marked **Normal**, **Warning**, or **Critical**. These are for the crew only and are never shown to the customer. See [Operational notes](/readme/dispatch/operational-notes.md). ### Reschedule If weather or access gets in the way, workers tap **Reschedule** — the visit is flagged back to the office as *Needs reschedule*, and the office picks the new date in Dispatch. On a visit with several services, you can reschedule just one of them — the rest stay on today. ### Skip visit **Skip visit** removes a job from today without canceling it — the office sees it was skipped. Skipped and sent-back visits land in Dispatch's [Needs attention](/readme/dispatch/needs-attention.md) view, so the office never loses track of them. ### Out of signal? Keep working In the app, once Today has loaded, crews can keep going without a connection. Start, Finish, photos, notes, skips, reschedules, and clock punches are saved on the phone and sent when the signal returns. A yellow **Offline. Showing last synced data.** bar appears, each saved action says *"…queued. It will sync when you're back online."*, and Today shows how many changes are waiting with a **Sync now** button.
